Welcome!
This is the first edition of the newsletter from www.AndyFutureRDH.com! In these
issues you will see brief news of importance, jokes, 5 board tips and 5 practice
questions and miscellaneous info. If you have anything you would like to include
you may email me. This "should" be a weekly newsletter.... :-)
First, I want to wish everyone good luck on studying for the upcoming boards
on March 26th! This is the big day we have all been getting ready for, and just
think...after this test we have nothing else to study for! If you are a first
year student then you can use these newsletters as a resource for "fyi"
information and you will fee much better come next year at this time! :-)

A lady walked into the male dental hygienist's operatory and laughingly stated,
"Gosh, I don't want to be here today. I'd rather have a baby than get this
done today." The male hygienist quickly responded, "Well, make up
your mind so I know how far to put back the chair!"

Board info to remember:
* What can cause gingival hyperplasia
- Anticonvulsants (dilantin, phenytoin, sodium valproate )
- Calcium channel blockers (nifedipine, diltiazem)
- Cyclosporine A (anti-rejection medicine for replacement therapy..etc)
- Genetic factors
- Hormonal changes - puberty, pregnancy
* Albuterol (an adrenergic B2 agonist) can cause xerostomia and insomnia! Avoid
mouthrinses with alcohol content!
* Water soluble vitamins - B's and C
Fat soluble vitamins - D, E, A, K
Here is how I remember these:
* Know about the PSR probe - screening to determine need for a full mouth probing
To remember PSR scores -ABCDE
1=A Absence of bleeding
2=B Bleeding present
3=C Calculus detected
4=D Disappearance of black band begins
5=E Entire black band goes in pocket.
* Hyperplasia - Increase in cell NUMBERS...."asia" has a lot of people!!
Hypertrophy - Increase in cell SIZE.....Remember you want the biggest trophy!

2) C- Plaque. Remember plaque is always the primary cause. Everything else are
just contributing factors.
3) C- A side effect of the antibiotic. Candida is present in everyone's mouth
but repeated courses or long-term use of antibiotics can kill off the good bacteria,
allowing Candida to flourish.

5) B -Chalky white spots
